 Gerry Herter
Gerry Herter is a partner and former long-time managing partner for HMWC CPAs & Business Advisors. He is a specialist in business assurance services and information technology.
Gerry brings over thirty-five years of experience to his role as partner in charge of the firm's Business Assurance Services department. The department's services include financial statement audits and reviews; evaluation and design of internal accounting systems; and review and evaluation of internal financial controls.
Gerry also heads the firm's Information & Technology Services Practice, which assists clients in the effective use of computer systems through hardware and software selection and installation.
Experience
Gerry served as an army officer in Vietnam, and then joined the small business audit staff of a national accounting firm in Chicago. Six years later, in 1977, he moved to California and became associated with what would become HMWC CPAs & Business Advisors.
Gerry has worked with companies in a wide variety of industries, including real estate, contractors, service, retail, manufacturing, distribution, and non-profit. Businesses range in size from start-ups to those with hundreds of employees and hundreds of millions in revenue.
Education
Gerry received his B.B.A. (1967) and M.B.A. (1969) in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin.
Professional & Community Involvement
A CPA since 1968, Gerry is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and California Society of Certified Public Accountants, as well as past president of Integra International®, a global alliance of accounting firms. He has taught accounting and tax courses at Chapman University and was a contributing editor for “Accounting Technology,” a New York based computer magazine that provides creative and practical guidance to accountants seeking to keep up with current trends in business automation.
